Longpoint Escape is what we like to call an emerging green rental. Every year we work towards the greening our our property for the health and comfort of families vacationing on Martha’s Vineyard.
In the spirit of emerging organic farms, we like to call Longpoint Escape an ‘emerging green rental’. Emerging organic farms are farms that are making the transition slowly from conventional farming methods to all organics. This process takes time.
At Longpoint Escape, our home has always been a healthy place to stay. However, every year we work towards creating a greener home for renters. Some things that we implement to help us with this goal:
Pets and smoking are not allowed. This has always been a rule since we have begun renting our home in 2004.
Our green, lush lawn is 100% chemical free. Dependable Landscape in Vineyard Haven has worked hard to insure that our lawn, while being gorgeous, is kept that way without the use of harmful chemicals. Isn’t it nice to know your children can run around a lawn that has no chemicals?
I wash quilts, bed pads, comforter covers, and pillow covers on a regular basis. You would think this would be obvious. Not always true at every private rental!
We offer green cleaning products for you to use during your stay. We also off conventional cleaning products for those that prefer them. Isn’t is nice to know you have a choice?
We have the carpet and upholstery professionally cleaned once a year. Again, you think this is obvious – not always so.
We are exploring solar and wind for future additional power sources. These are expensive, and we want to do our research. Our home is in the perfect spot to take advantage of both of those options, so we are excited to see what happens!
