West Tisbury offers two lovely, family friendly beaches.
Less than 2 miles from our home is Longpoint Beach, a Trustees of Reservations jewel consisting of 600 acres of publicly accessible beach, dunes, and woodlands.
Highlights:
Trails – 2.1 miles of flat trails through woods and open areas, plus beachfront. Easy walking.
When to Visit – Mid-June to mid-September: 9AM to 5PM (last admission at 5PM; gate closes at 6PM). Mid-September to mid-June: daily, sunrise to sunset. Allow a minimum of two hours.
Facilities – Public restrooms. Picnic tables. Bike rack. Small visitor center.
Freshwater pond – Do not be fooled by the word pond. It is more like the most kid friendly small lake you have ever been to. Shallow and sandy, all the families park it here to watch their children splash safely at the shores and build sand castle
Fees – Mid-June to mid-September: Trustees Members and children: FREE, plus half-price vehicle parking discount for basic-level members. We recommend that if you think you might visit the beach 2 or more times, it makes sense to become a supporting member of the Trustees of Reservations. After a couple of visits to Longpoint beach, your membership will have paid for itself and you will not only have supported a delightful nature preserve, but you also now have a charitable tax write-off. Score!
Nonmembers $10 per car plus $3 per adult; pedestrian/bicyclist $3; children 15 and under FREE.
Mid-September to mid-June: FREE to all.
